I've never read personals or ever thought of posting one myself, but this sparkling article takes you through the history and defining characteristics of a key cultural phenomenon of the 20th century, and probably the 21st as well. Hey it's considered a genre already.
Of late I've been disturbed by the cartoon shorts screened on MTV. Happy Tree Friends, has cute cuddly characters wandering a pastel landscape being happy and doing stuff that most other creatures on other kids' shows would be doing. With one significant difference - they always end up bloody, dismembered, decapitated, paraplegic and dead. It is plainly and utterly disgusting. The shorts always begin cute and sweet with saccharine music playing. Something will happen much like in Tom and Jerry or Road Runner and Coyote Wild, where characters chase each other. But in the latter where only Acme anvils and harmless bite-sized bombs are weapons of choice, Happy Tree Friends seems to borrow its arsenal from Shite insurgents. Simply unacceptable now that it's on cable.
Happy Tree Friends had its roots as a Web Flash animation that was distributed thru emails and links. That's ok since you'd have to look for and you'd have to know what you're getting into. Now it's on cable and pretty much at primetime. The animated violence and gore are senseless and gratituous. I don't unerstand what's happening over at MTV or why it's being broadcast. Someone please write MDA?
I'm not a perfect person
There's many things I wish I didn't do
But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know
I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
And the reason is you
I'm sorry that I hurt you
It's something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
Thats why i need you to hear
I've found a reason to show
A side of me you didn't know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you
back from 18 days (yea, count 'em)of sheer hell in the godforsaken jungles of brunei. Nothing against the nice country or its people or its geography. Now i have a greater insight into the senseless hate-filled satanism of war.
but it's been pretty alright i guess. I did survive stronger in some ways.
It's a gorgeously shot film, drenched in the austere orange sunlight of the rural impoverished suburbs. Centered around a group of young adolescents blessed with sensilbilities beyond their age, the story unfolds at its own pace and in its own style, employing loosely configured realism and postmodern ambiguity. It may be a little pretentious and at times aimless but this film carries off its sense of applied aestheticism well. Check it out if you are feeling melancholic and a little under the weather. Heh.
haha my first post in months. Hope to be more regular. At least. Yeah.
