Wow I had the rare chance to watch parts of Duck Soup on arts central yesterday. I must say that the Marx brothers are truly the first and last names in comedic cinema, and i dare say comedy itself. The song sequences got me hooked first, then the fast-paced crossfire delivery of witty one-liners and absurd riddles were the line. Sinker came in the vaudevillian routines which were perfectly timed, like the ones at the peanut and lemonade stands and the motorcycle routines. More than that, Groucho and gang used their slapstick humour to fashion a thinly-veiled swipe at the communist regimes of Mussolini and Stalin. Making a punchline out of political leaders, decision-makers and spies, the Marx brothers simply deflate all the pompous bureaucracy of governments and demean politics in general. Daring it its time, and still groundbreaking now. I've gotta catch the whole thing on DVD or something. Hail Freedonia!

IN THE END

the things we love give back
our names. One handed me a
plain stone to carve into something
better. Another returned the long
lost user guide to my left brain.
Someone passed a slip of paper,
my inscruitable handwriting
on one side, and on the other
in bright colours, the words
"I Want It All". Other brought
flowers: irises, daffodils,
the soft unpeeled heart of a rose.
None of the clothes fitted any longer.
I put aside the books I'd read,
and hadn't read, they took flight
as endless stairs, circling
beyond my years. But I loved
most of all the quiet
Sundays, when fingers of rain
would write themselves
on the clear page of my window,
dying to tell me their stories.

metrosexual

(met.roh.SEK.shoo.ul) n. An urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle.
—metrosexuality n.

basically, the darling child of consumer capitalism and an unabashed exhibitionist and narcissist. Spurred on at the turn of the decade by the emasculating female career-minded go-getter and men's style mags like The Face, GQ, Esquire, Arena and FHM. Vanity, thy name is Metrosexual.

got my xbox! Dad signed up for 18mths of maxonline and we got a free xbox. woohoo. I might have to bring it into camp cos my precocious younger brother has his 'o's this year. haha. but we'll see for now there's no games. Will have to mod it before i can download and burn games off Sharereactor.

From Jovian :
"Army is a good book to study life." De Vigny

I sure hope so. One year in this reimented dystopian organisation hasn't been all that bad, hasn't been all that great. But I'm thankful. I'll just hold on for 18 more mths, anticipating the worst and hoping for the best.

Because there's only so much more ahead after.

Bummed out behind a computer terminal in camp. I shouldn't be here but i don't mind. Then again time on my hands could be time spent with you.

Was at borders yesterday. Had searched for Roz and Guild, but proved too pricey for me. Then as i wandered up and down the main aisle, along the 'General Health' section, a book not so discreetly placed so as to catch the unassuming caught me. I took a closer look cos it was published by Dorling Kindersley. It was titled Supersex. Inside was crammed full with dirty talk, explicit language and full-frontal nudity, all of which celebrated promiscuous sex. It was essentially a manual for highly pleasureable sex w/o the love or commitment.

I'm shocked for 2 reasons : Isn't DK supposed to be a publisher of educational pictorals for young kids? Since when did diversification entail breaking into the adult market with such a punch? Truth be told i wouldn't have given it a second look if it didn't bear the iconic red letters DK emblazoned across an open book. Secondly, it was right next to the main aisle in the bookstore, on a bookshelf less than 1m from the ground, and with not a single copy shrink-wrapped. It's completely accessible to young kids and preteens!

I'm all for laxed censorship, but still we need to preserve a moral code of conduct. It's not right to leave these books on the open shelf for any unsuspecting minor to learn about foreplay. Sure these books must have a place in any of our bookstores, but only to discerning mature adult readers who know what they're getting into. I recommend that MITA demand all publishers of such books, if they are allowed to market their books here, to shrink wrap them before exporting them here. And the bookshop make sure each copy stays that way till sold over the counter, and keep them way outta reach of my 4 year-old cousin. Face it, despite increasing tolerance and acceptance of western ideas and behaviors we still need to have a system check in place to retain our own moral code of conduct.

Boy, this rant has gone on too long hasn't it? But might as well. God save us all.

i'm back. it's here.
Streaming forth from the new year is this uncensored weblog.
Found it in streams of froth, formed new here uncensured.

All very fishy and suspect yes? If you know me I don't keep journals, I don't do diaries. But out of sheer restlessness and inspiration I decided to reblog again. Some of it probably has to do with the new year mood i'm in. And maybe even less of it has to do with the cute pair of boxers i was in early Thursday morning.

Caught Ghost in the Shell last night. That's the 3rd movie i watched in 24hrs. Very mind-boggling and thought-provoking. Chuck full of philosophical ponderings, a complex story not too convoluted and damn fine animation, I'm wondering why I didn't catch it when it was initally released.

Alright. Expect more to come.. Including my resolutions and revelations.
What else to say. Happy new year 2004.
